About S.A.S. Nagar

S.A.S. Nagar Mohali, adjacent to Chandigarh has been carved out of areas falling in Ropar and Patiala District as 18th District of Punjab on 14th April 2006. The city of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, popularly known as S A S Nagar was officially named after the eldest son of 10th Guru Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It is practically a part of Chandigarh. It is located at a distance of 5 Kms from Chandigarh between Chandigarh & Kharar on National Highway No.21. S.A.S.Nagar is at a distance of about 95 Kms from Ludhiana.

SAS Nagar Mohali is located to the West of Chandigarh. It is almost a continuation of Chandigarh. To its north is Rupnagar district. To its south are Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala. Chandigarh, Panchkula, Zirakpur, Pinjore, Kharar, Kurali, Ropar, and Morinda are nearby locations.

The district includes Mohali, Kharar and Dera Bassi Teshils. It is located in the north east part of Punjab and it is a part of Patiala division The District includes 414 villages. The important townships in the district are Kharar, Kurali, Mohali, Zirakpur & Dera Bassi. Kharar tehsil is the largest administrative unit of the new district with 154 villages followed by Dera Bassi Tehsil with 44 villages. The district is spread over geographical area of 1092.64 sq. kms. The rural area constitutes 1021.77 sq. kms as compared to urban area of 70.87 sq. kms.

An Industrial Focal Point was carved out at S.A.S Nagar in the year 1971-72 for the planned growth of industry. A Large number of environment friendly and pollution free Industrial units have come up at S.A.S Nagar. Anticipating, role, this township shall play in the modern electronics as well as Microelectronics scenario, it was called " I.T. Hub of Northern India ".
